Gage Academy of Art is unapologetically independent and fiercely committed to excellence in the fields of painting, drawing, and sculpting. Celebrating 30+ years of service to the community, we believe in personal mentorship and skills-based studio instruction, delivered by brilliant teaching artists. Whether you are a curious newcomer or a professional artist, a working creative or a retired passion-seeker, Gage is open to anyone with the desire to learn. We invite art makers of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds to become part of a vibrant learning community, with access to the best art instruction, free programs, lectures, demos, events and enrichment all year long.

Each year Gage enrolls more than 3,000 adults and youth in ateliers, classes, workshops, and youth programming and welcomes another 8,000 community members to our campuses, partner locations, and online for free lectures, free youth programs, community art programs, and family-friendly events.

GAGE CAPITOL HILL

Gage Academy of Art is located at 1501 10th Ave. East, #101 Seattle, WA 98102. The office is open 9am – 5pm Monday through Thursday and 9am – 4pm on Friday.

Gage Academy of Art is located in the historic St. Nicholas building, a distinguished 1925 landmark, adjacent to St. Mark’s Cathedral, and nestled in the north end of Seattle’s vibrant Capitol Hill neighborhood.

Walking distance from a wealth of cultural and artistic attractions including Volunteer Park and the Seattle Asian Art Museum, Gage is centrally located close to coffee shops, dining, shopping, housing options and all the unique destinations of Seattle’s most eclectic neighborhood.

NOTE: Unfortunately, Gage does not have an elevator. Please email Facilities Manager Daniel Reveles regarding ADA accommodations.


GAGE GEORGETOWN

Gage Georgetown at Equinox Studios 6520 5th Ave S., Seattle 98108 Studios A & B

Our new, versatile 2000 square foot space houses a variety of year-round studio programs in painting, drawing and sculpture.

Gage Georgetown programs include the exceptional Modern Color Atelier with Kimberly Trowbridge; the new Core Drawing Atelier with Geoff Flack; The Georgetown Atelier with Tenaya Sims; as well as specialty workshops, classes and Teen Programs.

CAPITOL HILL

By Car:

Gage Academy of Art - Capitol Hill is located at 1501 10th Ave E Seattle, WA 98102.

From I-5 North:
Take exit 168A for Boylston Ave toward Roanoke Street. Merge onto Boylston Ave. Take a left on Roanoke Street. Take a right on 10th Ave E. Gage will be on your right, in the St. Nicholas building next to St. Mark’s Cathedral.

From I-5 South:
Take 168A for Lakeview Blvd. Take a left on Lakeview Blvd E. Take a right on Harvard Ave E. Take a right on E Boston St. Take a right at the second cross-street onto 10th Ave E. Gage will be on your right, in the St. Nicholas building next to St. Mark’s Cathedral.

Public Transit
The 49 — an affordable, hassle-free option — stops and picks up at our doorstep. The 49 travels through the U-District into downtown and meets transfers outside the University of Washington and downtown. Please check your bus schedule to see if the 49 has a stop or connection near you or refer to the Metro 49 website.

The and the 60 also have stop nearby.

Capitol Hill does have a light rail station, which is about one mile south of Gage. You can access the 49 from the stop or take a Lyft or Uber from the station to the school.

GEORGETOWN

By Car:

Gage Academy of Art - Georgetown is located at 6555 5th Ave S Seattle, WA 98108.

From I-5 North:
Take exit 162 for Corson Ave. Merge onto Corson Ave, then take a right onto S Michigan St. Turn left onto 5th Ave S, and Equinox Studios will be on the left (look for the building with the giant gold egg on top of it).

From I-5 South:
Use the left lane to take exit 162 for Corson Ave. Merge onto Corson Ave, then take a right onto S Michigan St. Turn left onto 5th Ave S, and Equinox Studios will be on the left (look for the building with the giant gold egg on top of it).

Capitol Hill / St. Mark’s Cathedral Lots
Starting in July 2023, yellow parking tags will no longer be valid. Parking will continue to be free in the 8 reserved spots along the side of Gage’s building. Shorter-term free parking is also available in the neighborhood and long-term free angled parking in a lot at 10th Avenue and Garfield street (near the Kraken mural) or along 10th Avenue north of Gage. Paid parking is available in the St. Mark’s lot using the parking app.

Starting in September 2023, there will be 7 additional reserved spots for Gage along St. Mark’s Cathedral across from the current reserved Gage spots. These spots will be reserved for Gage students from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on a first-come, first-served basis. If you park in a spot in the St. Mark’s lot that is not reserved and you do not pay, you do risk your vehicle being towed, but you will receive warning notices first.

Georgetown
There are several free lots surrounding the Equinox building for guests to park in.

All participants in Gage art programs are recommended to be fully vaccinated & boosted. Masks are at the individual's discretion.

We offer both online and in-person classes as of right now. Online classes are marked as Gage 360 Online classes.

All in-person classes will be located at both our Capitol Hill or Georgetown campuses. Location details will be stated on the registration page

After you enroll in a class you are officially on the roster and are good to go! If you are taking an online course you should expect to see an email closer to when the course begins with the zoom information. If you are taking an in-person class, we will send out an email letting you know what classroom it will be shortly before it starts so you know where to go.

To use your class credit you will need to call our registrar at 206-323-4243 and they will apply the credit manually.

Our refund policy can be found on our website all the way down on the bottom right corner listed as financial terms. Please note that whenever you drop a class or a workshop, the registration fee of $20 will not be refunded.

Not all of our instructors record their classes, but if you have to miss a day or might not be able to attend the course during the scheduled timeslot, please let us know and we can put in a request to see if the instructor would be able to send you recordings of the sessions! Please feel free to email us at info@gageacademy.org with your request and we will see what we can do for you.

Art Supplies - We kindly accept art supplies that are in original packaging or very gently used. We cannot accept solvents of any kind.

Every year we host an annual Art Auction & Gala where we invite instructors and students (past and present) to donate artworks to support the free and reduced cost programs at Gage Academy of Art.
